Congress Crowd Funding Campaign: In Nagpur, Maharashtra, Congress sought donations for the party under Donation for the Country on the occasion of its foundation day. There was a time when Congress was the richest party in the country, but after coming to power in 2014, there has been a continuous decline in the party’s funds.
138 years have passed since the establishment of Congress. On this occasion, Congress, which enjoyed power for more than 60 years after independence, has started crowd funding under the ‘Donate for the Country’ campaign. Before the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, a campaign to collect online donations has been started to connect with the people of the country.
Congress Treasurer Ajay Maken has appealed to people to donate Rs 138, Rs 1,380, Rs 13,800 or ten times more on the 138th anniversary of Congress. Congress also released a video on how to donate online.
Congress collected Rs 5 crore 35 lakh
It is noteworthy that under the ‘Donate for Country’ campaign, Congress has received donations of more than Rs 5 crore 35 lakh from across the country in 8 days from December 18 to December 25. Congress has received maximum donations from Maharashtra.
Congress has received a donation of Rs 82 lakh from Maharashtra and at second place it has received a donation of more than Rs 57 lakh from Rajasthan. After that donations have been received from Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Delhi. At the same time, Karnataka and Telangana are at sixth and seventh position in this list.
Since 2014, Congress’s revenue has declined by 29 percent due to being away from power. Experts say that Congress lacks the financial resources to contest various assembly and Lok Sabha elections.
Congress was the richest party in 2011
According to the data of Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), between 2007 and 2011, Congress was the richest party in the country with Rs 1495 crore 35 lakh, while BJP was the second largest party with Rs 769 crore 81 lakh. BJP which was very weak. It got the corporate touch on the initiative of Pramod Mahajan and when the party came to power, its wealth increased exponentially. Not only Congress-BJP, ADR also released figures of other parties.
How much funds does which party have in 2021-22?
According to the data, in 2021-22, Congress had total assets worth Rs 805 crore 68 lakh, while BJP’s assets reached Rs 6046 crore 81 lakh. According to ADR data for 2021-22, Marxist Communist Party had assets worth Rs 735 crore 80 lakh, Samajwadi Party had assets worth Rs 568 crore 40 lakh, Trinamool Congress had assets worth Rs 458 crore 10 lakh, Nationalist Congress Party had assets worth Rs 74 crore 53 lakh. According to the ADR report, Mayawati’s Bahujan Samaj Party is the only national party whose assets have declined.
Overall it is being said that Congress Lok Sabha Elections Before this, preparations have been started to raise funds for the party through ‘Donate for the country’. While on one hand Congress is asking for donations for the country, on the other hand BJP has criticized it. The saffron party says that Congress is asking for donations not for the country but for dynasty.
